This paper doll collection focuses on one of the most beloved members of the current royal family of England-Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. Crowned Queen of England when her husband became George VI after the abdication of his brother Edward VIII in 1936, she and her husband set outstanding examples of courage, self-sacrifice, and devotion as they toured the bombed areas of London and the provinces during World War 11. Tom Tierney focuses on major events in the life of this revered woman (who turned 100 in 2000) in a carefully researched, skillfully rendered paper doll collection that includes four figures of Her Majesty at various periods in her long life, and one of her husband in full military dress. Costumes include a slim, floor-length gown for her wedding in 1923; a formal gown and robes of state for her coronation in 1937; an olive drab wartime dress (1942); a beaded white satin gown for her daughter Elizabeth's coronation (1953); and a salmon pink gown (along with a signature, wide-brimmed hat) worn during one of the many ceremonies honoring her on her 100th birthday in August 2000. Collectors, paper doll fans, and lovers of royalty on both sides of the Atlantic will be thrilled with this delightful tribute to a much-admired icon of British royalty.
