French fashions reigned supreme during the first half of the twentieth century—from ostentatious gowns featuring the hourglass look by Callot Soeurs, to feminine evening dresses of the Fifties by Jacques Fath. In between came the “boyish” tubular look of the Twenties; suits and dresses that were wide at the shoulders and slim at the hips during the Thirties, and a “New Look” dependent on the lavish use of fabric during the Forties.
