Ming-Ju Sun's new paper doll collection focuses on more than 1,000 years of fashions worn by Chinese women. Two female dolls clothed in kneelength sheaths are accompanied by 16 authentic costumes, among them elaborately embroidered robes, dresses, tunics and more, from the Tang (A.D. 618-907), Song (960-1279), Yuan (1279-1368), Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1912) dynasties, as well as the Republican period (19111949). Each outfit is accompanied by appropriate hair stylesaccented with flowers, decorative combs and other forms of headgear. A lovely sequel to the author's Chinese Opera Costumes Paper Dolls of last season, and in the popular tradition of her Japanese Kimono Paper Dolls (now in its 9th printing), this exquisite collection of traditional apparel for Chinese women will delight costume designers, fashion historians, paper doll fans, and devotees of Far Eastern culture.
