ARTISTS Watercolours 5 ml. Save 25%
Since 1832, when William Winsor and Henry Newton introduced the first moist water colours, much of the reputation for supreme quality held by Winsor & Newton has been based on the Artists' Water Colour range. The range of 91 colours offers a wide and balanced spectrum with each colour being specially selected to offer the greatest choice ensuring all artists can choose a palette which suits their work.
Each colour within the range has an individual formulation, taking advantage of each pigment's characteristics and ensuring colour stability. The high performance pigments
ensure excellent strength and brilliance of colour whilst single pigment formulations have been used wherever possible to ensure cleaner, brighter mixes. Permanent alternatives
have been developed for the less durable traditional colours, without compromising handling properties, to generally improve the permanence of the range. As a result 88 colours are now classified as permanent for artists' use.
Water colour papers are recommended to allow the artist to exploit the widest variety of techniques and ensure long term stability. Winsor & Newton water colour paper is a 100%
rag paper which is both internally and externally sized, giving a strong sheet which withstands repeated sponging, rubbing and lifting of colour with the right degree of
absorbency. Cotman Water Colour paper is an inexpensive alternative which is acid free and both internally and externally sized.
Sable brushes are the best suited for water colour due to their excellent colour carrying capacity, spring and ability to point, the finest of which is the Winsor & Newton Series 7 range. Sceptre Gold (a sable/synthetic blend) and Cotman (synthetic) offer lower priced alternatives.
