Andrew Jackson's life was the stuff of adventure novels. Orphaned at age 14, he developed into a hardy frontiersman and military leader (nicknamed "Old Hickory" for his toughness) who fought the British during the American Revolution, and at the Battle of New Orleans in the War of 1812. He also studied law and by 1796 was a U.S. Congressman from the new state of Tennessee. In 1828, Jackson was elected seventh President of the United States. For this paper doll collection-the 19th in Dover's series of Presidential paper dolls-Tom Tierney has meticulously rendered eleven dolls representing Jackson, his wife Rachel, a niece, Rachel Donelson, and her husband, as well as other family members and close friends. Paper doll fans can dress the dolls in 22 authentic costumes and accessories, including a military uniform, waistcoats, trousers, frock coats, hoop-skirted evening gowns with off-the-shoulder necklines, wedding dresses, dinner apparel, and more. Children's apparel is included as well. Carefully researched notes describe all the costumes in this colorful collection, one that will not only serve as an excellent classroom teaching aid, but will also delight collectors, costume historians, and paper doll fans of all ages.
